I’ve worked in businesses for many years, finding myself wondering and then questioning ‘why aren't these businesses treating their staff like humans?’..... For me it is so simple, I have basic needs as a human, I need contact, connection, clear communication, some sort of parameter or set of boundaries to shape the direction I want/need to go in, to know what is expected of me, how I add value and to feel safe and secure - is that too much to ask for?.... No it isn't - back to basics for me is the key, asking myself ‘how would I like to be treated if I was in the same position’?....if I have these basic needs, other humans must do too....
Employers have responsibilities, as do its employees, understanding and sharing what these are is fundamental to a productive, successful, harmonious relationship that thrives not just survives, or worse deteriorates.
We live in a world of change, businesses need to develop and evolve so they can be competitive - a business that stagnates and plods, avoiding anything change related will not be able to create the results and successes of a business that embraces change and understands that the core foundation of your business is its employees - humans - it's common sense isn't it? if your employees are disengaged, feel insecure and unsure they aren't going to be motivated and productive - would you be?....
Employees are humans, they are still humans when they are at the top of the org chart or a graduate starting their career, they are still humans when they have a personal problem, they are still human when they read something in the press that was news to them and now they are looking for a new job....they are still human...not a name on a chart, a payroll number, a £ on a spreadsheet - so stop treating them as such....
Putting human back into Human Resources is now my passion - it drives me to guide, support and sometimes kick businesses and their leadership/management teams into changing their mindsets around their employees.
I now work with Business Owners, Leadership and Management teams within SME’s to deal with and address employee and ‘human’ related topics proactively as well as the firefighting that naturally is required when the basic human needs are not being met.
I hear employers, managers, even people within HR saying 'I'm not a people person' and in my experience that can be very true, however if you are human, you're a 'human person' :)
'I've worked with Claire on a number of occasions and on various projects. She not only always provides me with exceptionally clear and professional advice on HR issues, but has an ability to look at things with a very commercial focus. Claire's advice and help have been indispensable to me and I would have no hesitation in recommending her to my colleagues, peers and network. As we all know people can be the most challenging part of running a business, but working with Claire has allowed me to build and keep a highly performing team and hugely rewarding culture.'
I was introduced to Claire by a friend, and what started as an exploratory question regarding my own worth within the workplace culminated in a significant pay rise and more importantly a reframing of both my professional and technical worth. That alone warranted a review. Claire's experience and passion is steeped in the advice given - thank you Claire!laire!
I've gone from being overwhelmed and over-committed to calm, focused and clear in mapping out and achieving the next stages of my visions. Working with Claire to unpack my business direction has been invaluable throughout 2018. Her clarity of thinking and experience on resourcing large scale projects with the aligned people and skills has meant that I've moved forward with confidence in my strategic collaborations. She's my go-to now to check that I am aligned in my projects and committed at a manageable and sustainable level. Highly recommend Claire's executive coaching if you are looking to scale your business as a small business owner with a big vision.
I found Claire very informative and knowledgeable, giving me real confidence to ensure that I provided my staff members the course of action that they expect from a people focused business. Her advice was second to none! I would definitely recommend her.
